{"id":13,"date":"2017-06-13T10:27:30","date_gmt":"2017-06-13T13:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.inf.ufpr.br\/luizoliveira2\/?page_id=13"},"modified":"2022-05-11T09:22:53","modified_gmt":"2022-05-11T12:22:53","slug":"research-interests","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.inf.ufpr.br\/luizoliveira\/research-interests\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My research interests are basically directed towards <b>pattern recognition<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>machine learning.<\/b>\u00a0 My motivation still relies on the same question: <span class=\"visualHighlight\">why humans are better than computers at recognizing things?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>These are some of the topics I&#8217;ve been working during the last few years:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Handwriting recognition, segmentation, and verification.<\/li>\n<li>Signature and Writer Verification\/Identification.<\/li>\n<li>Classification models.<\/li>\n<li>Dynamic Selection of Classifiers<\/li>\n<li>Concept Drift<\/li>\n<li>Dissimilarity Pattern Recognition<\/li>\n<li>Deep Learning<\/li>\n<li>Texture Classification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you look my <a class=\"wiki internal-link\" title=\"publications\" href=\"https:\/\/web.inf.ufpr.br\/luizoliveira\/publications\">publications<\/a> you will have an idea of what I\u00b4m doing lately.<\/p>\n<h3>Datasets<\/h3>\n<p>During the last years, I&#8217;ve been trying to make all the data used in my research available to facilitate the reproducibility of the experiments performed and published with students and colleagues.\u00a0As stated by <span class=\"link-external\"><a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.inf.ufpr.br\/lesoliveira\/download\/reproducible.pdf\">LeVeque and his colleagues<\/a><\/span>, the computational science is facing a credibility crisis since verifying most of the computational results presented in conferences and journal is almost impossible.
